Watermelon Ice Cream served in watermelon shell
Came across this recipe from my mum’s very old Reader’s
Digest - The Cookery Year 1973 edition. She has an amazingly huge precious collection
of books on varied subjects; most of them now for me are Collector’s Edition. Have
old Reader’s Digest from 60s and 70s when the cost of the magazine was Rs 3!

Eton Mess – A traditional summer English dessert consisting of meringue, cream and strawberry
This all-time classic British dessert was conventionally
served at Eton College during their annual cricket match. Hence the name Eton. One
story says it was invented by a labrador that sat upon the picnic basket containing
the strawberry pavlova and squashed it completely. Nevertheless, the boys
finished the entire thing and this dessert was born!
For me, my version of Eton mess is like pizza. Just have
to throw in the leftovers and whatever fruits are available as per the season.
I used some leftover crushed meringue with strawberry, pomegranate, bananas and
cream and topped it up with a red meringue. Mixed it and ‘messed’ it up after
clicking the pictures. Fabulous for a summer afternoon!
